Winery Background and History
Maison Chanson was founded in 1750 and has long been a notable Burgundy négociant and domaine. As Chanson expanded its domain holdings, it maintained a philosophy of terroir expression, careful vineyard investment, and blending negotiateur skill with estate cultivation. In Burgundy, Chanson Père et Fils handles estate bottlings including their Premier and Grand Cru sites, striving for consistency, purity, and elegance across vintages while respecting the local terroir and climate dynamics.
Producer and Wine Maker
The wine is produced by Chanson Père et Fils under the Chanson Burgundy team. The team oversees vineyard management, picking decisions, vinification, blending, and barrel aging. They aim for finesse over power—gentle extraction, moderate oak, and fruit-forward balance. They also apply attention to sorting and fermentation temperature control to preserve delicate aromatics while ensuring structure.
Vineyards and Micro Climate
The Beauregard climat is a 1.1 ha parcel (for the Beauregard plot) owned by Chanson on a southeast exposure in Santenay. The soils are limestone with stony components, giving minerality and drainage. The site is situated mid-slope, receiving good sunlight yet benefitting from diurnal cooling in Burgundy’s continental climate. The microclimate supports slow, even ripening, preserving acidity and aromatic clarity in Pinot Noir.
Vinification & Aging Methods
After harvest, grapes are destemmed (or partially whole-cluster), sorted, and fermented in small vats with temperature control. Maceration is moderate to avoid harsh tannins. Malolactic fermentation is carried out in barrels or vat. The wine is aged for about 14–19 months in French oak barrels, a proportion of which are new, balanced with used barrels to integrate structure and oak influence without overpowering fruit.
Tasting notes
Bright ruby core. On the nose: red cherry, raspberry, violet blossom, and subtle spice and liquorice. On the palate: elegant and silky, with fresh red fruit (cherry, cranberry), gentle tannins, balanced acidity, and a lingering finish of mineral and soft oak. The wine shows finesse and purity with enough structure to develop further.
Food & Wine Pairing
Works well with roast poultry (duck, quail), game birds, grilled pork, mushroom dishes, and rich stews. Also suits medium cheeses, earthy dishes with herbs, or smoked meats. Its balance of fruit, acidity, and structure makes it versatile.
Service Methods and Temperatures
Serve at around 15-17 °C. Use a medium to large Burgundy Pinot Noir glass to allow aromatics to open. Decant for 20-30 minutes if the wine feels tight or after some bottle aging to help integration.
Storage and Aging Potential
Under ideal cellar conditions (12-14 °C, stable humidity, dark), this wine can age gracefully for 8 to 12 years (or more), gradually developing secondary notes of earth, forest floor, dried fruit, and truffle, while retaining refinement. After opening, consume within 2-3 days for optimal character.
