Winery Background and History

Maison Chanson was founded in 1750 in Beaune and has grown as both a négociant and estate in Burgundy. Over time Chanson has expanded its domain holdings, improved vineyard practices, and merged tradition with modern cellar methods. The Domaine Chanson (Père & Fils) branch manages its own vineyards and selectively bottles Premier Cru and village wines. Their philosophy emphasizes expression of terroir, careful viticulture, and balance between fruit and structure. Over recent decades they have emphasized vineyard renewal, precise sorting, and controlled fermentations to elevate wine quality.

Producer and Wine Maker

Produced by Chanson Père & Fils, the winemaking team oversees all stages: vine management, harvesting, sorting, fermentation, and oak aging. Their approach is one of restraint: minimal intervention, gentle extraction, and allowing vineyard character to show. They adopt methods such as whole cluster inclusion, cold settling, and fractional pressing where appropriate. Their cellar regime balances oak influence with fruit integrity.

Vineyards and Micro Climate

The Bressandes vineyard is a Premier Cru in Beaune, located mid-slope with an east-southeast exposure. The soil mix is clay and limestone with good drainage and moderate fertility—typical of the Beaune terroir. The climatic regime is Burgundy continental: warm summers, cool nights, variability in vintage weather. The vineyard faces morning sun, helping to ripen Pinot Noir while preserving acidity.

Vinification & Aging Methods

This 2022 was vinified largely with 100 % whole clusters, to provide depth of color, structure and aromatic complexity, provided only perfect ripeness is achieved. Grapes are chilled immediately on arrival to preserve freshness and minimize oxidation. Pressing is done with care (fractional pressing) to extract the purest juice gently. The wine is matured 17 to 19 months in French oak barrels, of which about 30 % new oak is used to support structure without overwhelming fruit.

Tasting notes

Deep, bright ruby in color. The nose offers intense red berry aromas—strawberry, cherry, red currant—alongside mild peppery spice. The palate is supple, well-balanced, with pure and refreshing fruit, clear acidity, and a silky texture. The finish is long and fruity, with subtle spice accents.

Food & Wine Pairing

Pairs beautifully with roast duck, game birds (pheasant, quail), pork loin with herbs, mushroom dishes, veal, and soft cheeses like Brie or washed rind. Also good with grilled salmon (if one prefers a lighter red) and dishes that combine earthiness and aromatic herbs.

Service Methods and Temperatures

Serve at about 15-17 °C. Use a medium to large Burgundy-style Pinot Noir glass to allow aromas to open. Decant for 20–30 minutes if the wine is tight or recently bottled. Pour gently to avoid disturbing any sediment.

Storage and Aging Potential

With ideal cellaring (12-14 °C, stable humidity, darkness), this wine should evolve gracefully for 8 to 12 years or possibly more. Over time, tertiary notes of earth, forest floor, dried fruit and spice may emerge while preserving core freshness and elegance.
