Winery Background and History
Domaine Bruno Clair, based in Marsannay-la-Côte in Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits, was established by Bruno Clair in 1979. Spanning multiple revered appellations, the estate now includes the domaine and family holdings under careful stewardship with emerging involvement from the next generation. Renowned for its precision viticulture, minimal intervention, and dedication to terroir-driven expression, Bruno Clair crafts wines that meld elegance with structure.
Producer and Wine Maker
Bruno Clair and his family manage every step—from manual vineyard work to fermentation. “Source des Roches” is vinified with traditional Burgundian techniques: native yeast fermentation, a combination of stainless steel, oak barrels, and large foudres, and extended lees aging. New oak is used sparingly to preserve purity and highlight site expression.
Vineyards and Micro Climate
This cuvée is sourced from approximately 0.80 ha on southeast-facing upper slopes of Marsannay, comprising parcels such as Les Vaudenelles, Les Rosey, and Boivins, planted in the 1980s and 1990s. Soils are shallow clay-limestone with abundant stones. The terroir—elevated at ~310m—imparts freshness, minerality, and intensity.
Vinification & Aging Methods
Fermented in stainless steel vats over 2–3 weeks, the wine then matures for 18 months in a mix of oak barrels and large foudres. This allows texture and complexity to develop while preserving freshness and structure.
Tasting Notes
The wine displays a pale gold hue with fresh aromas of apple and lemon. The palate balances vibrant fruit and lively tension, supported by stony minerality and energetic acidity. Additional layers evoke floral blossom, Mirabelle plum, lemon zest, and persistent, well-defined minerality.
Food & Wine Pairing
An ideal match for delicate seafood, white meats, or light vegetable dishes—think simply prepared fish or poultry. Its vibrant acidity, structural lift, and purity elevate both minimalist and refined cuisine.
Service Methods and Temperatures
Serve well chilled at 10–12 °C in a tulip-shaped or white wine glass to capture its freshness, mineral drive, and aromatic finesse.
Storage and Aging Potential
According to Domaine guidance, the 2020 vintage is suitable for drinking now or laying down in the cellar. With its structure and focus, it should age gracefully for 5–8 years.
