Winery Background and History

Founded in 1979 in Marsannay‑la‑Côte, Domaine Bruno Clair has grown into a respected Burgundy estate celebrated for its commitment to terroir expression and precision viticulture. Now family-led, the domaine oversees farms in the Côte de Nuits, producing wines known for balance, depth, and elegance.

Producer and Wine Maker

The Marsannay Rouge is crafted using traditional Burgundian methods: hand-harvested Pinot Noir, 10–20% whole-bunch inclusion, fermented over 10–15 days in wooden vats, followed by maturation in oak barrels (around 20% new) for 18–20 months  .

Vineyards and Micro Climate

The grapes come from Bruno Clair’s 1.4021-hectare holdings within the Marsannay appellation—clay-limestone soils, southeast-facing, offering freshness and expressive minerality  .

Vinification & Aging Methods

Pinot Noir is fermented with partial whole-bunch inclusion and macerated for 10–15 days in wooden vats. The wine is then aged for 18–20 months in oak barrels with roughly 20% new oak  .

Tasting Notes

The 2021 Marsannay Rouge delivers fragrant, floral aromas with fresh red-berry notes. It presents medium body, crisp and elegant texture, silky tannins, and a vibrant, slightly stemmy freshness  . Another review highlights its red berries, spice, and earthy nuances with a silken texture and lingering finish  .

Food & Wine Pairing

A classic pairing for roast duck, goose, game birds, and hearty white meats—the wine’s savory, structured character complements rich, flavorful dishes beautifully  .

Service Methods and Temperatures

Serve slightly cool, at 15–17 °C (not fully warmed), using a large tulip-shaped red wine glass to best capture its aromatic subtlety and silky texture  .

Storage and Aging Potential

Marsannay Rouge can be enjoyed young but also benefits from short to mid-term aging. The 2021 vintage should develop nicely over the next several years, showing nuance and depth.
