Winery Background and History

Maison Ruinart, founded in 1729 in Reims by Nicolas Ruinart, is the world’s oldest Champagne house dedicated solely to sparkling wine  . Over nearly three centuries, Ruinart has built an enduring legacy of elegance, innovation, and artistic partnership, from its chalk-cellar origins to its role today under LVMH  .

Producer and Wine Maker

Cellar Master Frédéric Panaïotis leads the winemaking team, supported by a collaborative tasting committee. They oversee the meticulous selection of Grand Cru Chardonnay parcels and revived the historic cork-aging method. Their collective expertise ensures each vintage reflects both terroir and timeless finesse  .

Vineyards and Micro Climate

Crafted exclusively from Grand Cru Chardonnay—90 % from Côte des Blancs villages (Le Mesnil, Avize, Chouilly, Cramant), 10 % from Montagne de Reims (Sillery)—it benefits from chalk-rich soils, cool maritime climate, and diurnal temperature shifts, yielding precision and minerality  .

Vinification & Aging Methods

Hand-picked Chardonnay undergoes temperature-controlled stainless-steel fermentation, followed by malolactic fermentation. After blending, the wine ages under cork on its lees in chalk cellars for at least nine years, receives manual disgorgement, and is released with a 4 g/L dosage  .

Tasting notes

Pale yellow-green with a fine, lively mousse  . Aromas of yellow orchard fruit, almond, vanilla, smoked nuts, spice, iodine, iris blossom, and candied citrus peel  . The palate is mineral-driven and creamy, with toasted nuts, glazed apple, apricot, chalk, saline, and a persistent finish  .

Food & Wine Pairing

Pairs beautifully with oysters, seafood carpaccio, lobster, smoked fish, poultry in creamy sauces, foie gras, aged mild cheeses, light veal dishes, and mushroom-based cuisine  .

Service Methods and Temperatures

Serve at 8–10 °C in a wide tulip- or white-wine-shaped glass to preserve aromatic breadth and mousse. No decanting required; gentle swirling enhances expression  .

Storage and Aging Potential

Under ideal conditions (7–15 °C, >70 % humidity, darkness), Dom Ruinart 2010 can develop for 10–20+ years. Over time it gains rich tertiary notes—honey, toasted nuts, dried fruit—while retaining freshness  .
