Winery Background and History

Founded in 1760 in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Champagne Delamotte is one of the oldest Champagne houses. It shares deep ties with the prestigious Champagne Salon, with both estates managed by the same team and sharing facilities. Delamotte is renowned for producing elegant Champagnes that emphasize the purity and finesse of Chardonnay, reflecting the unique terroir of the Côte des Blancs.

Producer and Winemaker

Delamotte is part of the Laurent-Perrier group and operates under the guidance of Didier Depond, who also oversees Champagne Salon. The winemaking team focuses on minimal intervention, allowing the character of the grapes and the terroir to shine through. Their approach combines traditional methods with modern techniques to produce Champagnes of exceptional quality and consistency.

Vineyards and Microclimate

The grapes for Delamotte Brut NV are sourced primarily from Grand Cru vineyards in the Côte des Blancs, including Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger, Avize, and Cramant. The region’s chalky soils and cool climate contribute to the wine’s minerality and elegance. The vineyards benefit from a microclimate that ensures slow and steady ripening, preserving the grapes’ acidity and aromatic complexity.

Vinification & Aging Methods

Delamotte Brut NV is crafted from a blend of 60% Chardonnay, 35% Pinot Noir, and 5% Pinot Meunier. The base wine is primarily from the 2018 vintage, complemented by reserve wines from 2017 and 2016. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel tanks to preserve freshness, followed by malolactic fermentation. The wine is aged on its lees for 36 months, enhancing its complexity and texture. A dosage of approximately 7.5 grams per liter is added to achieve balance and harmony.

Tasting Notes

Delamotte Brut NV exhibits a pale golden hue with fine, persistent bubbles. The nose offers aromas of white flowers, citrus zest, and freshly baked bread. On the palate, it is crisp and elegant, featuring flavors of green apple, lemon cream, and subtle brioche notes. The wine’s vibrant acidity and mineral backbone lead to a clean, refreshing finish.

Food & Wine Pairing

This Champagne pairs beautifully with a variety of dishes, including oysters, smoked salmon, and sushi. Its brightness complements creamy cheeses like Brie and Camembert, while its effervescence cuts through the richness of fried appetizers and light poultry dishes. Delamotte Brut NV also serves as an excellent aperitif, setting the stage for a delightful dining experience.

Service Methods and Temperatures

Serve Delamotte Brut NV well-chilled at 8–10°C (46–50°F) in a tulip-shaped Champagne glass to concentrate its aromas and preserve its effervescence. Avoid using flutes, as they can restrict the wine’s aromatic expression. No decanting is necessary; simply pour and enjoy its freshness and complexity.

Storage and Aging Potential

Store bottles horizontally in a cool, dark place with consistent temperature and humidity. While Delamotte Brut NV is ready to drink upon release, it can develop additional complexity with 3–5 years of cellaring. Over time, expect enhanced notes of toasted brioche, honey, and dried fruits.
