Winery Background and History

Maison Chanson, established in 1750 in Beaune, initially built its reputation as a négociant before expanding into estate holdings across Burgundy. Over time, Chanson developed vineyards in the Mâconnais region, including parcels in Solutré, Vergisson, and Fuissé, to express the diversity of Chardonnay in southern Burgundy. The house emphasizes terroir-driven wines, investing in vineyard renewal, selective plot vinification, and modern cellar practices while respecting Burgundy tradition.

Producer and Wine Maker

The wine is produced by Chanson Père & Fils. Their winemaking team selects fruit from the Solutré and Vergisson plots, handles sorting, temperature-controlled fermentations, lees management, and oak aging to balance freshness and complexity. The approach favors minimal intervention and clarity of expression.

Vineyards and Micro Climate

The vineyards lie in the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation of the Mâconnais, particularly on clay and limestone soils in Solutré and Vergisson. Exposure is east to southeast, allowing morning sun and gentle ripening. The climate is more temperate than northern Burgundy: warm days, cool nights, and less vintage variation, but water deficit and heatwaves still pose stress, as in 2022.

Vinification & Aging Methods

In the 2022 vintage, the wine was aged for 10 months (versus 13 months in 2023) in a mix of vessels to balance purity and texture. Chanson uses a portion of oak (barrels) to add texture, but retains much stainless / neutral vessels to preserve freshness. The fruit is handled gently with controlled fermentation and lees contact to build mid-palate weight.

Tasting notes

Pale gold colour. On the nose: fresh floral notes, citrus (lemon, white grapefruit), subtle white stone fruit, fresh honey and mineral hints. On the palate: taut and well-structured, with zesty citrus, green apple, a saline minerality, fine texture, and long refreshing finish.

Food & Wine Pairing

Pairs beautifully with chicken with cream and mushrooms, filet mignon en croûte, hake ceviche with citrus, shellfish in beurre blanc sauce, and goat cheese. Also suitable with pork tenderloin, white fish, or light creamy dishes.

Service Methods and Temperatures

Serve chilled at 10-12 °C. Use a white wine glass with genug bowl to allow aromas to develop. No decanting is needed, but opening 10 minutes before serving helps the aromatic layers emerge.

Storage and Aging Potential

Under good cellar conditions (12–14 °C, stable humidity, darkness), the wine may evolve for 5 to 8 years. Over time, the wine’s texture and depth may increase, with tertiary notes of hazelnut, brioche, and mellow orchard fruits.
