Winery Background and History
Maison Chanson was established in 1750 in Beaune, originally as a négociant house. Over time it expanded its vineyard holdings in Burgundy—covering Côte de Beaune, Côte de Nuits, and portions of the Mâconnais. Its domain arm, Chanson Père & Fils, produces estate wines reflecting a balance of tradition and modernity. The Bourgogne Blanc Chardonnay is part of its entry-to-mid level white range, intended to express Burgundy’s signature Chardonnay freshness and minerality while remaining accessible.
Producer and Wine Maker
The wine is made by Chanson Père & Fils. Their cellar team sources grapes from selected parcels in Côte Chalonnaise and Côte de Beaune, manages sorting and pressing, fermentation, and aging. Their style favors minimal intervention, gentle extraction, lees contact, and moderate use of oak or neutral vessels to allow the Chardonnay’s clarity and site character to shine through. VINTUS describes it as “a serious Bourgogne Blanc” with “pure fruit and racy acidity.”
Vineyards and Micro Climate
The fruit is drawn from slopes in the Côte Chalonnaise and Côte de Beaune, on clay-limestone soils that combine drainage with retention. Exposures tend toward east or southeast, giving balanced ripening. The 2022 vintage was warmer with episodes of heat, but the cooler nights preserved acidity and minerality in the wines.
Vinification & Aging Methods
Harvested by hand, the grapes are gently pressed using “Champagne-style fractional pressing” to ensure purity of juice. Fermentation and malolactic fermentation are done in vat (stainless steel or neutral vessels). The wine is aged on the fine lees for 5 to 6 months to add texture without obscuring freshness.
Tasting notes
Pale gold in color. Aromas of citrus (lemon, lime), green almond, and subtle mineral hints. The palate is crisp and well-balanced: pure fruit, lively acidity, and a refreshing finish. The wine is taut and precise yet approachable.
Food & Wine Pairing
Pairs beautifully with shellfish (oysters, scallops), white fish (sole, cod), seafood risottos, goat cheese, or poultry in light cream sauces. Also works as a refreshing aperitif or with charcuterie and pâté.
Service Methods and Temperatures
Serve well chilled at 8-10 °C. Use a white wine glass that concentrates aromatics. No decanting needed—just pour and give it a few minutes to open.
Storage and Aging Potential
Best enjoyed within 5 to 7 years. Under proper cellar conditions (cool ~12-14 °C, stable humidity, darkness), it may develop subtle tertiary notes (honey, nuts) while retaining freshness.
