Winery Background and History

Champagne Barons de Rothschild was established in 2005 through the collaboration of three branches of the Rothschild family—Baron Benjamin, Baron Eric, and Baroness Philippine. Their shared vision was to create a Champagne house that embodies the family’s commitment to excellence and tradition. By combining their expertise and resources, they aimed to produce Champagnes that reflect the elegance and refinement associated with the Rothschild name.

Producer and Winemaker

Under the guidance of Cellar Master Guillaume Lété, Champagne Barons de Rothschild focuses on crafting wines that showcase the purity and finesse of Chardonnay, balanced by the structure of Pinot Noir. Lété’s approach emphasizes meticulous vineyard selection and precise winemaking techniques to ensure consistency and quality across vintages.

Vineyards and Micro Climate

The grapes for Concordia Brut NV are sourced from over 85% Grand and Premier Cru vineyards. Chardonnay is primarily obtained from Avize, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger, Vertus, and Trépail in the Côte des Blancs, while Pinot Noir comes from Aÿ, Verzenay, Ambonnay, and Avenay in the Montagne de Reims. These regions offer a combination of chalky soils and a cool continental climate, contributing to the wine’s minerality and freshness.

Vinification & Aging Methods

Concordia Brut NV is crafted using exclusively the cuvée (first press) to ensure optimal purity. Fermentation occurs in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats, followed by malolactic fermentation. The wine undergoes aging on fine lees for 6 to 7 months, with a minimum of 3.5 years on the lees in bottle. Post-disgorgement, it rests for at least 6 months before release. The dosage is set at 6 g/L, resulting in a Brut style.

Tasting Notes

Concordia Brut NV exhibits a bright, clear, pale gold hue with fine, persistent bubbles. The nose reveals aromas of white-fleshed fruits like pears and nectarines, complemented by floral notes of peony from the Pinot Noir. Secondary aromas include dried apricots and almonds, adding complexity. On the palate, the wine offers roundness and generosity, with flavors of crisp nectarine, honey, saffron, and pepper, culminating in a finish marked by pleasant bitters.

Food & Wine Pairing

This Champagne pairs elegantly with a variety of dishes. Ideal as an aperitif, it also complements gently fried sea scallops, shellfish, rockfish, risotto, fine white meats, and soft cheeses like Brie de Meaux. Its balance of freshness and complexity enhances both delicate and richly flavored foods.

Service Methods and Temperatures

Serve Concordia Brut NV chilled at 8–10°C (46–50°F) in a tulip-shaped Champagne flute to concentrate its aromas and showcase its effervescence. No decanting is necessary. Ensure the bottle is properly chilled before serving to maintain its freshness and vibrancy.

Storage and Aging Potential

While ready to enjoy upon release, Concordia Brut NV benefits from additional aging. Stored under optimal conditions—cool, dark, and with consistent temperature and humidity—the wine can develop greater complexity over the next 3 to 5 years. Its structure and balance suggest good aging potential for a non-vintage Champagne.
