Winery Background and History
Champagne Barons de Rothschild is a relatively recent addition to the esteemed Rothschild family’s portfolio, established in 2005 through the collaboration of three branches of the family. Their shared vision was to create a Champagne house that embodies the family’s commitment to excellence and tradition. By combining their expertise and resources, they aimed to produce Champagnes that reflect the elegance and refinement associated with the Rothschild name.
Producer and Winemaker
Under the guidance of Cellar Master Guillaume Lété, Champagne Barons de Rothschild focuses on crafting wines that showcase the purity and finesse of Chardonnay, balanced by the structure of Pinot Noir. Lété’s approach emphasizes meticulous vineyard selection and precise winemaking techniques to ensure consistency and quality across vintages.
Vineyards and Micro Climate
The grapes for the Brut Rosé NV are sourced from premier vineyards in the Champagne region, particularly from the Côte des Blancs and Montagne de Reims. The Côte des Blancs is renowned for its chalky soils and is primarily planted with Chardonnay, contributing to the wine’s elegance and minerality. The Montagne de Reims, with its varied soils and microclimates, provides high-quality Pinot Noir, adding depth and structure to the blend.
Vinification & Aging Methods
The Brut Rosé NV is crafted using the traditional method (méthode champenoise), where secondary fermentation occurs in the bottle. The blend consists predominantly of Chardonnay, complemented by Pinot Noir, a portion of which is vinified as red wine to impart the rosé hue. The wine undergoes extended aging on the lees, enhancing its complexity and texture. A low dosage is applied to maintain the wine’s freshness and balance.
Tasting Notes
This Champagne presents a brilliant pale pink color with fine, persistent bubbles. The nose offers delicate aromas of rose petals, wild strawberries, and a hint of lemon peel. On the palate, it is fresh and precise, revealing a silky texture with tangy notes of citrus fruits, red berries, and a crisp, mineral-driven finish.
Food & Wine Pairing
The Brut Rosé NV pairs beautifully with a variety of dishes. Its freshness and elegance complement seafood such as grilled salmon or tuna tartare. It also harmonizes well with poultry dishes, light pasta, and soft cheeses. For a delightful contrast, try it with berry-based desserts or dark chocolate.
Service Methods and Temperatures
To fully appreciate its nuances, serve this Champagne chilled at 8–10°C (46–50°F). Use a tulip-shaped glass to concentrate the aromas and allow the bubbles to rise gracefully. No decanting is necessary; simply pour and enjoy its vibrant character.
Storage and Aging Potential
While the Brut Rosé NV is ready to enjoy upon release, it can benefit from short-term aging. Stored under optimal conditions—cool, dark, and with consistent temperature and humidity—the wine can develop additional complexity over the next 2–3 years.
