Winery Background and History

Casanova di Neri, founded in 1971 in Montalcino by Giovanni Neri, has become internationally acclaimed for its modern and expressive Brunellos. Cerretalto is the estate’s most prestigious single-cru bottling, created only in exceptional vintages, and is revered for its power, precision, and unparalleled expression of terroir.

Producer and Winemaker

Now under the leadership of Giovanni’s descendants, the Neri family maintains rigorous vineyard and cellar standards. Cerretalto reflects their haled focus on low yields, manual sorting, spontaneous fermentations, and extensive oak aging—resulting in concentrated yet elegant wines.

Vineyards and Micro Climate

The fruit comes from a prized vineyard situated in a natural amphitheater beside a small river, featuring mineral-rich soils and an ideal microclimate. This unique terroir yields grapes with exceptional depth, structure, and aromatic nuance.

Vinification & Aging Methods

Fermentation is spontaneous, with maceration in open temperature-controlled fermenters, followed by aging in French oak barrels for approximately 36 months and a further 24 months in bottle before release.

Tasting notes

Full-bodied with a deep core of dark fruit, the wine shows slate, oyster shell, porcini, licorice, cedar, and mineral infusion. It is powerful, sensual, and richly textured.

Food & Wine Pairing

Ideal with robust Tuscan fare such as braised lamb, game ragù, grilled red meats, roasted pork, and aged cheeses. The structure and depth of Cerretalto pair best with richly flavored dishes.

Service Methods and Temperatures

Serve at 16–18 °C in a large Bordeaux-style glass. A substantial decant (1 to 2 hours) is highly recommended to reveal its full aromatic and textural complexity.

Storage and Aging Potential

Built for longevity, this wine is structured to evolve slowly and gracefully over many decades—reach its peak between 10 to 30 years after vintage.

Grape Varietals & percentage used

100% Sangiovese, as required by Brunello di Montalcino DOCG regulations.

ABV (Alcohol by Volume)

Approximately 15% ABV—reflecting its richness and concentration.
