Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova DOCG 2013
Country: Italy
Region: Tuscany
Volume: 750ml
Winery Background and History:
Casanova di Neri was founded in 1971 by Giovanni Neri in Brunello di Montalcino. The estate spans approximately 50 hectares across several vineyards, including the flagship Tenuta Nuova plot planted in 1993. Known for modern, powerful Brunellos, Casanova di Neri emphasizes site-specific viticulture, scientific clonal selection, and rigorous vineyard management.
Producer and Wine Maker:
Under Giacomo Neri’s leadership, the 2013 Tenuta Nuova was vinified in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats followed by aging in French tonneaux with a portion of new oak. The wine was bottled after 36 months in barrel and further aged in bottle before release.
Vineyards and Micro Climate:
Grapes are sourced from the Tenuta Nuova vineyard at around 300–400 m elevation on clay-limestone soils. The 2013 season featured delayed bud break, even rains and ideal ripening conditions, yielding balanced phenolic maturity with retained acidity .
Vinification & Aging Methods:
After hand harvesting and destemming, the wine underwent spontaneous fermentation and a 24–32 day maceration in concrete conical vats. It aged 36 months in oak followed by 12 months in bottle .
Tasting Notes:
Deep red hue. Aromas include intense blueberry, raspberry, Morello cherry, floral elements, citrus peel, spice, leather, balsam herb, graphite, and cedar. The palate is full-bodied with dense layered fruit, polished tannins, bright acidity, savory herbal notes, smoky nuance, and a long structured finish .
Food & Wine Pairing:
Ideal with grilled or roasted red meats (beef, lamb, venison), aged cheeses, wild mushroom risotto, truffle dishes, and hearty stews. Its structured tannins and bright acidity enhance rustic, savory cuisine.
Service Methods and Temperatures:
Serve at 16–18 °C in large Bordeaux-style glasses. Decant for at least 60 minutes to allow aromatics and tannins to open fully.
Storage and Aging Potential:
Cellar at 12–14 °C with moderate humidity. This wine will evolve gracefully through 2040+, with tertiary layers of leather, spice, dried fruit, and earth unfolding over time ().
