Winery Background and History

Founded in the 1960s, Allegrini is a trailblazing family estate in Valpolicella Classica, Veneto. Over generations, it has elevated the region’s reputation by combining traditional vineyard heritage with innovative, terroir-focused winemaking. La Grola—introduced as a cru wine in the late 1980s—was one of the region’s earliest single-vineyard expressions, reflecting Allegrini’s commitment to site-driven quality.

Producer and Wine Maker

Under Franco Allegrini’s leadership, the estate integrates precise viticulture with modern oenology. Grapes for La Grola are cultivated with minimal intervention, selecting peak expression through careful harvest timing and controlled vinification.

Vineyards and Micro Climate

The vineyard sits at ~310 m altitude with southeast exposure on chalky, clay-rich soils in Valpolicella Classica. Combined with alpine breezes from Lake Garda, this terroir grants the wine minerality, aromatic precision, and structural elegance.

Vinification & Aging Methods

Harvest is followed by spontaneous fermentation in stainless tanks with gentle extraction over 15 days. The wine matures in old barriques for 16 months, then ages 10 months in bottle before release.

Tasting notes

Displays great fruit concentration—blackberries, cherries, and violets—followed by tobacco, cigar box, and dark chocolate. Tannins are firm yet ripe, offering a velvety texture and long finish of red and black fruit reflected in both vintage 2021 and prior versions.

Food & Wine Pairing

Versatile yet structured, it pairs beautifully with rich pasta such as lasagna Bolognese, stewed mushrooms, and aged, non-spicy cheeses. It also complements savory meat-based sauces with ease.

Service Methods and Temperatures

Serve best in a medium-to-large red wine glass at 16–18 °C. While drinkable now, a short decant (30 minutes) can soften tannins and enhance aromas. (Implied best practice)

Storage and Aging Potential

Produced for both early appeal and aging—enjoyable now, it should evolve positively through 2030 and beyond.

Grape Varietals & percentage used

A precise blend of 90% Corvina Veronese and 10% Oseleta.

ABV (Alcohol by Volume)
